NMBVM Information Updates

Vesicular Stomatitis

The New Mexico Board of Veterinary Medicine has been informed by the New Mexico Livestock Board of two cases of vesicular stomatitis in the state. The cases are in Grants and Otero counties; the infected horse and livestock in each county are under quarantine.

Be advised, vesicular lesions in livestock are reportable to state and federal Animal Health Officials. Prompt reporting is essential for rapid diagnostics and control of disease.

New Mexico livestock producers should be aware that some restrictions or additional entry requirements may be necessary for interstate and international movement of livestock from New Mexico. The New Mexico Livestock Board State Veterinarian encourages managers and producers of major equine shows and events to call the New Mexico Livestock Board, 505-841-6161, for guidance on ways to minimize disruption of shows and events.
