Vesicular Stomatitis – Post date: May 15, 2015
In compliance with the 2015 VSV Field Procedures, livestock on a Grant Co premises are under quarantine following private practitioner notification to Animal Health Officials of the finding of one (1) horse with lesions compatible with Vesicular Stomatitis. There has been no movement of livestock to or from this premises in the past three weeks. Appropriate biosecurity measures are in place at this time.
Producer and private practitioner vigilance for evidence of vesicular lesions in livestock and immediate reporting of such findings to state and/or federal animal health officials is essential for prompt diagnosis and control of disease spread and initiation of biosecurity measures to protect other livestock.
Vesicular Stomatitis – Post date: 04/30/2015
The New Mexico Board of Veterinary Medicine has been informed by the New Mexico Livestock Board of two cases of vesicular stomatitis in the state. The cases are in Grants and Otero counties; the infected horse and livestock in each county are under quarantine.
Be advised, vesicular lesions in livestock are reportable to state and federal Animal Health Officials. Prompt reporting is essential for rapid diagnostics and control of disease.
New Mexico livestock producers should be aware that some restrictions or additional entry requirements may be necessary for interstate and international movement of livestock from New Mexico. The New Mexico Livestock Board State Veterinarian encourages managers and producers of major equine shows and events to call the New Mexico Livestock Board, 505-841-6161, for guidance on ways to minimize disruption of shows and events.

DVM, RVT EXAMINATIONS
New Mexico DVM and RVT examinations are administered throughout the year in the Board office. Fees for DVM and RVT examinations on a date selected by the applicant are:
- DVM – $500
- RVT – $100
BOARD-SET EXAMINATION DATES AT A REDUCED FEE
Twice annually the Board administers the examinations in Albuquerque at a reduced fee. The reduced fee examination dates for 2016 are as follows:
- Wednesday, January 13, 2016
- Wednesday, May 18, 2016
Fees for Board-set examination dates are as follows and must be submitted with the application form:
- DVM – $300
- RVT – $75
VETERINARY CONTINUING EDUCATION TRACKING (VCET)
The American Association of Veterinary State Boards (AAVSB) is offering a tracking service for continuing education for veterinarians and veterinary technicians. The service is accessible by going to http://www.AAVSB.org and clicking on Are you tracking your CE? on the home page. The sign up process is easy and will prove to be a time saver at annual renewal time.
The requirements for bovine artificial insemination and pregnancy diagnosis permits have changed. Information can be accessed at Licensing Procedures tab above.
VETERINARY EXTERNS PERFORMING SURGERY
The exemption to licensure as set out in 61-14-14 B applies specifically to students in veterinary school as described; therefore, the students can perform surgery working under the direct supervision on a New Mexico-licensed veterinarian.
IMPORTANT MESSAGE FROM THE BOARD
The Board continues to be notified of the solicitations to veterinarians for the purchase of drugs for re-sale to companies offering an incentive of paying a percentage of the sales of the drugs to the veterinarian ordering the drugs. Be advised, this type of dispensing of prescription drugs is in violation of the Board’s Rules, specifically:
188.8.131.52 A. No legend or controlled drug shall be prescribed, dispensed, or administered without the establishment of a veterinary-client-patient relationship.
